As temperatures drop and the air turns crisp, nostalgia transports me to Snowmass Village’s thrilling mountain adventures, cozy comforts, and vast blue skies. If your family is looking for a winter getaway that combines thrilling outdoor adventures with cozy comforts, Snowmass is a must-visit destination.
With an array of activities for both skiers and non-skiers, adults and kids, Snowmass has become one of our family’s favorite winter escapes. From exhilarating ski runs to relaxing après-ski offerings, my family and I made unforgettable memories on and off the mountain.
Our family loves skiing intermediate runs together, and Snowmass boasts over 3,300 acres of diverse terrain, so there are plenty of runs for every skill level. During our recent trip to Snowmass, my husband and our boys enjoyed the more challenging runs and skied for the whole day, from the first chair to the last lift. Even though I can keep up on the mountain, I love scoping out cozy lodges nearby to sip hot chocolate and take in the sweeping scenery. We didn’t need ski classes this time, but for families with first-time rippers, Snowmass Kids’ Ski School has kid-friendly, informative lessons to get them familiar with the slopes. And if you want to kick back while your kids enjoy some playtime, the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center seemed like a big hit with families. With six interactive, nature-themed rooms and plenty of activities for every age, Snowmass has plenty of options to keep the fun going.
Once the boys finished skiing, we hit the long tubing run at Elk Camp for an adrenaline-pumping adventure—be prepared to go fast as you spin through the snow! There’s something magical about racing through snowy trees and terrain, and it was made even better by watching the kids smile as they coast down the mountain. It’s not a complete trip to Snowmass without a ride on the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster—a rollercoaster-like track that winds through the forest at breathtaking speeds. For thrill-seeking kids, this is the cherry on top of an already action-packed family adventure.
Once your family is ready to wind down after a long day on the mountain, Snowmass is teeming with kid-friendly activities that keep the energy high from day to night. After the lifts closed, we laced our skates and glided across the Snowmass Ice Rink. The twinkling lights overhead and live music nearby made it a charming addition to an already fantastic day. Another après-ski highlight was the Collective Snowmass, a lively hub for community events, games, live music, and more. Our kids had a blast racing up the climbing wall while my husband and I took the opportunity to relax and reminisce on the day’s special moments.
One of our favorite parts of family vacations is sharing a meal, and Snowmass has plenty of dining options for every craving, from wood-fired pizzas to comforting mountain fare. Our boys couldn’t get enough of the truffle fries, while my husband and I loved the romance of dining on the mountain.
You won’t want to miss the Snowmass S’mores cart either, aptly shaped like an oversized marshmallow. You can grab a free s’more starting at 3:30 p.m. and enjoy it fireside after a day’s worth of winter activities. It was the perfect ending to a day spent in the heart of winter wonderland.
From fun on the slopes to exciting après-ski activities, Snowmass has something special for every family member. Whether you’re in it for the thrill of the ride or the warmth of fireside cocoa, Snowmass delivers an unforgettable winter experience. After just one trip, it’s become one of our family’s favorite spots—we encourage all our friends to go visit! If you dream of a winter escape filled with memories at every snowy corner, Snowmass should be at the top of your list. Start planning your family’s next winter adventure, and prepare to fall in love with this magical mountain town as much as we did.
