Snowmass Art Walk

Loop #1 – Base Village & The Mall

Recommendation: Begin on Snowmass Mall

Touring Time: 45 minutes

Begin walking the Mall to view a variety of murals and art installations. Waiting to be Discovered (#1) is a mural located within a pedestrian tunnel near Gene Taylor’s Sports. Close by, find the statue Standing Bear (#2) near the restaurant Napoli Grill.  

Walking further down the Mall, you’ll see the mural Snowmastodon (#3) painted on the Tower outside of Four Mountain Sports. Continue walking towards the ski resort to find, Snowmass Chair (#4), near the stream in front of Gorsuch. 

Take the stairs (located just after Gorsuch) down to the Village Shuttle pickup lot on Daly Lane to admire, Snowmass Landscape (#5). Back up the stairs, find the steps leading up to il Poggio Restaurant and the Tavern Kitchen and Bar on Elbert Lane you’ll delight in seeing Family is Everything (#7). As you make your way back to the Mall and walk past the Venga Venga Restaurant, do not miss the mural Colorado Seasons (#6).

To complete the loop, ride the SkyCab Gondola (“The Skittles”) to Base Village. 

In Base Village, begin by walking to the Treehouse. Sitting outside the Treehouse exit door is Out on a Limb (#8).  Proceed down the steps next to Hayden Lodge/Treehouse to the other side of the Treehouse, to find Mama and Baby Bear (#9).  

Walk through Base Village towards the Elk Camp Gondola.  Just past the Gondola, take a right towards the ski mountain.  In front of the ski storage building look up to find Wild West (#10).  

Head to the Ice Rink outside The Collective.  In front of the children’s splash area, find Cara Dunne-Yates Sculpture (#11).  Nearby are two Arbor Pods (#12), one near the back of The Collective and one near Sundae Ice Cream Shop.  To see the two final pieces, enter the Transportation Center by using the doors next to the Eye Pieces.  On the stairway down to the Transportation Center, find Bison Latifrons Skull (#13) and on the escalator down find mural Bison Latifrons Body (#14)

 

Loop #2: Yarrow & Cathy Robinson Park

Touring Time: Approx. ~1.5 hour

Begin the tour by walking down the Brush Creek Trail under the Brush Creek Bridge where you’ll find May Fly (#1).

Using the same trail, backtrack to Yarrow Park to find Lady with Diamonds (#2) at the entrance to the park (the driveway off Owl Creek Road).  Continue down the Brush Creek Trail towards the stream. Cross the bridge over the stream and find The Leaners (#3) on the left-hand side of the trail.  Continue down the trail and find steps that lead to the Snowmass Chapel.  Walk through the Chapel complex to the north side of the Chapel to see the beautiful John Denver Memorial Garden (#4). 

Walk back through the Chapel grounds to the parking lot and towards the Fire Station.  In the back of the Fire Station, you’ll see Memorial Flames (#6). In front of the Fire Station (the Owl Creek side), you’ll find Big Chief (#5). The Firemen will welcome visitors into the Station to see sculptures (#7-8) and paintings (#10-11). 

After leaving the Fire Station, head over to Anderson Ranch (#12) to view outdoor art installations, and possibly see artists at work in the many workshops. 

For the adventuresome, stroll down Owl Creek Trail 0.4 mile along the golf course.  Cross Owl Creek at the pedestrian crossing and arrive at Cathy Robinson Park where Orchids in the Wind (#13) and the Moose (#14) sculptures are located. 

Note: For those who choose not to walk the Owl Creek Trail, Cathy Robinson Park, where the Little Red School House is located, has limited free parking.

 

Loop #3 Snowmass Town Hall & Brush Creek Trail

Outside of Town Hall sits Transparency (#1), a large scale sculpture. Enter Town Hall to find Snowmass Lake (#2) hanging on the wall on the first floor. After observing these two pieces, exit Town Hall and walk towards the roundabout. 

At the center of the roundabout is Double Black Diamond (#3). Continue walking beyond the roundabout towards Carriage Way & Wood Road. Take a right on Carriage Way and immediately walk down onto Brush Creek Trail. Once on Brush Creek Trail walk East (downhill) along the path to view Linked Obsessions (#4), Peaks (#5), and This is the Place to Be (#6).

 

Loop #4 Snowmass Town Park Station

After parking, walk toward Town Park Station. Outside of Town Park Station are two public art pieces: Our Refuge Our Place (#2) and Mammoth Skeleton (#3)

To observe the Art Tunnel (#1), walk West on Horse Ranch Trail toward Brush Creek Road. Eventually, Horse Ranch Trail leads to the Art Tunnel, which lives under Brush Creek Road. The final piece in Loop #4, Deer Statues (#4), is located beyond the parking lot and Rodeo Grounds. Follow the sidewalk along Brush Creek Road and take a left at the roundabout. These animal statues are located on the left along Brush Creek Road.
