Snowmass Village, Colo., (July 31, 2023) – Today, Snowmass Tourism announces the August calendar of events, including the new Snowmass Déjà Vu, sister festival to June’s Snowmass Rendezvous, and the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Community Celebration. August also sees the return of the Plein Air Art Festival, Cidermass, and the Audi Snowmass 50 Bike Race.
“August is the last month to savor summer staples like Sunset Tuesdays, the Snowmass Rodeo, and the Free Concert Series; Plus, join in the celebration of the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery,” says Rose Abello, Tourism Director, Snowmass Tourism. “Be sure to visit Snowmass to enjoy all that is offered. And please ride transit and take advantage of the free parking at Snowmass Town Park and in the Base Village Parking Garage.”

Audi Snowmass 50 Bike Race – August 5: Aspen Snowmass hosts the Audi Snowmass 50 Bike Race on Saturday, August 5, featuring 25 miles of some of the best single track mountain bike trails in Colorado. Previously known as the Audi Power of Four, divisions are broken up into 50-mile solo racer (two loops), 25-mile solo racer (one loop) and 50-mile teams of two where each rider completes one 25-mile lap. Plein Air Art Festival – August 5-6: Summer 2023 sees the return of the Plein Air Art Festival to Snowmass Village. Throughout the week, over 20 Colorado artists descend on Snowmass to spend four days painting the natural beauty and splendor of the surrounding landscape. On Saturday, August 5 from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 6 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., guests and locals are invited to Snowmass Base Village to view the artwork and purchase their favorite pieces to take home. www.gosnowmass.com/event/plein-air-art-festival/2023-08-05/
*New – Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Community Celebration Weekend – August 11 & 12: Snowmass revives the Ice Age Discovery story with a community celebration on August 11 and 12, 2023. On Friday, August 11, at 6:00 p.m., Snowmass Tourism hosts a free scientific lecture at Limelight Hotel Snowmass featuring Dr. Ian Miller of National Geographic, lead paleontologist on the 2010 dig, and David Heil, president of Aspen Science Center. On Saturday, August 12, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., join Snowmass Village Town leaders for a community celebration on The Rink in Snowmass Base Village. Activities include the opportunity to be the first to complete the Ice Age Passport Walk, learn about the discovery with education stations from Aspen Science Center, enjoy live music, kids’ activities and more, followed by an outdoor screening at 9:00 p.m. of Disney’s animated movie, Ice Age. www.gosnowmass.com/event/snowmass-ice-age-discovery-community-celebration/2023-08-11/
Cidermass – August 19: Cidermass returns to the Snowmass Mall on Saturday, August 19 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., featuring hard cider tastings from more than 30 hard cider, batch distiller, and hard seltzer vendors from all over the country. *New – Snowmass Déjà Vu – August 26: For one day only, be transported back to a time and place where the beers were cold, and the chili was hot! This summer, the event organizers behind Snowmass Rendezvous debut Snowmass Déjà Vu, an homage to the classic Snowmass Craft Beer and Chili Pepper & Brew festivals from years past, with tributes to the original Snowmass Rendezvous (which takes place in Snowmass every June). On August 26 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Denver-based Two Parts is throwing a retro-inspired party, complete with free-flowing beers, engaging activations, and a chili cookoff between a half dozen of Snowmass’ staple restaurants. Sunset Tuesdays at Elk Camp – Tuesdays through August 8: Sunset Tuesdays are back at Elk Camp this summer with Elk Camp Restaurant, Snowmass Bike Park, and Lost Forest hosting extended hours on Tuesday evenings through August 8. The experience includes a complimentary ride up the Elk Camp Gondola from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. to the restaurant where guests can enjoy locally-sourced ingredients in a farm-to-table inspired à la carte dinner with full cash bar, outdoor family activities and live music on the deck. Snowmass Rodeo – Wednesdays through August 16: The Snowmass Rodeo celebrates 49 years of operations this summer. This long-standing Western tradition is a Snowmass summer staple, complete with music, cowboys and cowgirls, horses, livestock, and family fun. Snowmass Free Concert Series – Thursdays through August 24: Celebrating 31 years of free live music this summer, the Snowmass Free Concert Series, a local’s favorite, long standing summer tradition, returns to Fanny Hill every Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., through August 24. The weekly outdoor series features a spectrum of sounds including country reggae, rock, funk, bluegrass, and more. Music on the Mall – Fridays through September 29: Every Friday through September 29, Music on Mall returns to Snowmass, featuring live music on the Tower Stage from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Performances feature local Roaring Fork Valley musicians, with highlights including Rob Dasaro, Bonfire, Echo Monday, and Wade Waters. www.gosnowmass.com/events
Yarn Bombing Installation – Daily: Snowmass Tourism debuts a new community-based art project this summer, focused on the art of yarn bombing. Yarn Bombing is the act of wrapping colorful knitted pieces to objects in public spaces for the pure purpose of art and smiles. Trees and other stationary objects around Snowmass Town Park have been selected for coverage in custom knitted and crocheted pieces, culminating in a colorful spectacle of yarn wrapped objects and arbors. Each piece features a tag with the artist’s name and the name of the piece. Visitors to Yarn Bombing are encouraged to park at Snowmass Town Park and wander along the trees and paths surrounding to view the art any time this summer. The trees are located between Brush Creek Road and the Town Park parking lot, from the entrance of the lot to the bike path near the soccer fields. Movies Under the Stars – Saturdays through August 19: Returning this summer, Movies Under the Stars, presented by The Collective Snowmass in partnership with Adventure Entertainment, continues the dusk movie tradition in Snowmass Base Village on most Saturday evenings in August. Gather family and friends, pack a picnic, and enjoy free movie screenings at dusk, hosted by The Collective Snowmass. Viewers are encouraged to bring blankets or low-profile chairs, non-alcoholic beverages, and to purchase food from Base Village restaurants. www.TheCollectiveSnowmass.com.
ACES Guided Hikes – Daily: Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) returns to Snowmass this summer to lead twice daily hikes. The Nature Trail Hike begins at 10:00 a.m., while the Discovery Trail Hike starts at 1:00 p.m. Hikes are led by a knowledgeable ACES environmentalist and feature history, facts, trivia, flora and fauna, and possible wildlife sightings! The Collective Snowmass – Daily: The Collective Snowmass, the hub for community activity in Snowmass Base Village, features a robust summer lineup of weekly programming. Returning favorites include Community Bingo, Salsa, and Chess nights; yoga on The Rink with instructor Aaron King; the Snowmass Live Comedy and Music Series; and Movies Under the Stars. In addition, the summer schedule includes new offerings such as Drag Queen Bingo and cooking classes at Mawita with James Beard Nominee Mawa McQueen. The Collective also features yard games, splash pads, fountains, and pop-up events on The Rink. Elk Camp Gondola – Daily: Enjoy a ride on the Elk Camp Gondola in Snowmass! Elk Camp Gondola gives access to the Lost Forest, Elk Camp Restaurant, and Snowmass Bike Park. Use Elk Camp as a base to ride 90+ miles of Snowmass trails, part of the Aspen Snowmass/ Roaring Fork Valley IMBA Gold-Level Ride Center, the only Gold-Level Ride Center in Colorado, one only the five in United States, and one of only seven in the world.
